Managing acute and chronic pain, particularly the transition from acute to chronic pain, is a complex challenge often under-recognized in clinical practice. This session uses case-based examples, such as multilevel lumbar fusions and limb amputations, to explore advanced pharmacologic strategies for managing these transitions. It emphasizes optimizing medication regimens during the transition phase and implementing safe deprescribing methods once stability is achieved. By examining these high-stakes scenarios, the seminar adopts a whole-patient approach to address the biopsychosocial drivers of pain.
