Dr. Alaa A. Abd-Elsayed, MD, MBA, MPH, CPE, FASA, FASIPP is an internationally recognized leader in anesthesiology and pain medicine, currently serving as Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. A board-certified anesthesiologist and chronic pain specialist, he is widely regarded as one of the most prolific and influential voices in modern pain medicine.
Dr. Abd-Elsayed completed his anesthesiology residency and pain medicine fellowship at the University of Cincinnati after a clinical research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He further advanced his executive leadership expertise through completion of an MBA and certification as a Physician Executive. Throughout his career, he has founded and expanded multidisciplinary pain programs, led system-wide opioid stewardship initiatives, and driven innovation in interventional pain and neuromodulation services.
A remarkably prolific scholar, Dr. Abd-Elsayed has authored more than 460 peer-reviewed manuscripts, contributed over 150 book chapters, and edited more than 60 medical textbooks. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Pain Medicine Case Reports and sits on numerous editorial boards, shaping the academic direction of the specialty. His research portfolio has secured multimillion-dollar funding and has influenced clinical practice guidelines, education, and health policy worldwide.
