Dr. Stephanie G. Vanterpool is a pioneering pain management clinician, researcher, and advocate, focused on transforming pain care. She is the Director of Comprehensive Pain Services and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Tennessee’s Graduate School of Medicine. With an MD from Duke University and specialty training in anesthesiology and pain medicine, she is board-certified in both fields. She also holds an MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business.
Dr. Vanterpool is recognized as a regional and national leader in pain management and policy. She has served on the boards of the Tennessee Pain Society and the North American Neuromodulation Society and is an appointed member of the Tennessee Opioid Abatement Council. She is committed to improving patient care, particularly for underserved populations, and advocates for more accessible pain management solutions globally.
A proud native of the British Virgin Islands, Dr. Vanterpool frequently returns to provide specialized care and advocates for international access to targeted pain treatment. She also runs the annual Targeted Pain Treatment conference and served as the executive producer of the PBS documentary Targeted Pain Treatment – Hope for Patients with Pain, aiming to educate clinicians and the public on evidence-based pain management strategies.
